History
With a history backtracking to 1500 years, chess is among the oldest games still played. The game started in India then spread to Persia where the Arabs learnt the game. Persian and Arab influence on the game is evident in the name of the game itself. In all other languages, the name of the game is derived either from Shatranj (Arabic) or from Shah (Persian).
